Foster Parents help save lives by temporarily keeping a dog or cat in their home until we can find their
“fur-ever” home.
Anyone with a love for Adoptable Pets can be a Foster Parent.
PPAWSS relies on Foster Families to house our Adoptable Pets until they find their "fur-ever" home because we do not have a shelter building at this time.
We cannot continue to be successful without people like You!

Frequently Asked Questions:
1) How long would I keep the animal?
The typical foster term is approximately three weeks;
however it varies depending on the specific case.
2) What does PPAWSS provide?
PPAWSS provides anything the foster parent may need including but not limited to: crate, toys, collar and leash, medication and food (if available at the time)
3) Would I be in charge of the adoption process for the animal I am fostering?
The foster care provider is not responsible for the animal's adoption. PPAWSS' Adoption Team will find homes for the animals. We do, however, ask the foster care provider to share their observations and experiences with the animal in order to help us match the needs of the pet with the desires of its new family.
4) How do I become a foster parent?
#1: Complete an application and send it to foster program supervisor.
You can mail or email your application.
#2: Your application will be reviewed, and you will be contacted to arrange for a home inspection and interview.
#3: The final step in the process is a quick and simple training session to help you prepare for your Foster Friend.
After that, you will be able to take home your new "Foster Friend".
PPAWSS is a group of Foster Homes that rescues Adoptable Pets from local euthanizing shelters that are waiting for their "fur-ever" home.
All Animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, temperament tested, and receive superior care. All dogs are Heartworm tested and all cats are FIV tested.

Foster Parent Guidelines:
Applicant must be at least 18 years of age
Prior to fostering, all Foster Homes must complete a Foster Home Application, Foster Home Agreement, Foster Parent Training Session, and a Home Inspection.
Your own animals must be spayed/neutered and current with their vaccinations. We also require that you vaccinate your dogs with a Bordetella vaccination to prevent kennel cough which is common in dogs rescued from an Animal Shelter.
Medical care will be provided only via a PPAWSS representative. If you think your Foster Dog needs any medical care, including vet visits or over-the-counter medications, please contact your PPAWSS representative before acting.
Foster Homes agree to bring their Foster Friend to adoption events regularly.
These events are the primary method of matching up potential adopters with our pets.
Events occur generally once a month on a Saturday from 10-3 p.m. in Sulphur Springs, exact times & locations are posted on our website.
Foster parents do not normally attend the Adoption Events unless they have also completed the Volunteer Program and are approved by the Volunteer Coordinator to be on the “Adoption Team”.
Only those pets that have received prior approval for fostering and are deemed adoptable by a director of PPAWSS can be fostered within PPAWSS’ Foster Program. Volunteers and/or Foster Homes are not authorized to pull dogs directly from the shelter or accept strays or owner surrenders.
We do not foster-to-adopt. Potential adopters should go through our regular application process rather than become Foster Homes.
