Frenchy died of natural causes due to inadequate nutrition and care as a kitten and the living conditions we removed her from, on Monday, June 23, 2008.

On May 30, PPAWSS worked with the Hopkins County Constable office on a case of suspected neglect and abandonment of over 20 cats. Two PPAWSS volunteers arrived to find the house filled with feces and urine, which made the house unlivable for both the cats and humans. After entering the house wearing safety masks, a PPAWSS volunteer discovered the bodies of eight cats who were already deceased. Only remnants of food bags were found on the scene. One kitten, Frenchy, was found cowering in the living room. Another Kitten, Sandy, was found stuck in the outer wall of the house. The clean up crew had to use a crowbar to bust the wall open to save her life. No other cats were found inside the house alive. Two kittens, Dee and Rizzo, were found scared on the rooftop. A clean up crew member went on the roof to rescue these helpless kittens. A few feral adult cats were seen in the area that are suspected to have escaped though an open window at the Animal Hoarder’s house. The four kittens were immediately taken to Broadway Vet and given medical treatment for malnourishment, Upper Respiratory Infections, and severe eye infections.

PPAWSS' policy is to rescue dogs and cats from local euthanizing shelters. Somtimes, PPAWSS comes across a case of abuse or neglect and we must intervene. One main reason for intervention is Hopkins County Sherriff's Department does not have the means to rescue dogs and cats and calls upon PPAWSS for assistance.
Please Read about some of our Rescues.

A PPAWSS officer was driving home when suddenly traffic came to a stop for two scared dogs trying to cross the street. The black one cowered in the middle of the two lane highway, but eventually made it across to safety. The volunteer could not stop at the time, but she felt had to go back to check on the two dogs.
With the help of 2 other PPAWSS volunteers, the two dogs were located
around the same area.
The PPAWSS volunteers located the home where these two dogs lived. After a brief evaluation of the dogs, they all realized these dogs were the victims of severe neglect. They knocked on the door and made contact with the owner. They expressed their concerns about the welfare of the animals.
The volunteers were told they were a breeding pair and weren't producing and he had been trying to sell them for a few months. The PPAWSS volunteers offered to buy the dogs from the man in order to save them from these conditions. Luckily, the man willingly signed over his ownership rights and gave the dogs to PPAWSS in exchange for PPAWSS finding them a good home.

Where are they now?
Dee and Sandy were adopted together!
They enjoy chasing each other around the house.
Here they are taking time to look out the window.
Look how big they have gotten!!

During a routine traffic stop, Hopkins County Sherriffs arrested a Tennessee woman for having outstanding warrants in another state. In he backseat were Lexi, 6 year old purebred Dachshund, and her two 2 week old Rat Terrier mix puppies.
Because the woman was going to be transferred and she had no family in the area, The Sherriff's Department conacted PPAWSS for help. A Sherriff's Deputy wanted to take them home and PPAWSS told them to call if they need help placing the puppies.
Two weeks later the Sherriff's Department called and needed PPAWSS to take Lexi and her puppies. The Deputy was unable to keep them because of her landlord. PPAWSS contacted several rescues because there was not room for them now.
PPAWSS arranged for transport to get Lexia nd her puppies to Kilgore. got Paws? in Kilgore said they could help care for the mother and babies until they could be transferred to the Dachshund Rescue in Houston.
When animals are transported from PPAWSS to another rescue, food, immediate medical care, and transportation costs are not usually reimbursed.
Please consider making a donation to help PPAWSS continue to transport purebreds to rescues when we do not have room to take them in.
Without your help, Lexi and her puppies would have ended up in the shelter to face certain death.

Bonnie and Clyde were given their names because they were escape artists and were causing their previous owner distress because they were always running away.
Bonnie and Clyde were severly matted. They both had fecal matter and other objects (sticks, burrs, sand, mud) entangled in their fur.
Clyde's tail had apparently been chewed off recently. Half of his tail was missing.
The tip was infected and caused Clyde to scream everytime something touched it.
The volunteers cleaned and medicated his tail to help stop the infection
PPAWSS volunteers spent over 6 hours bathing, clipping, cleaning, shaving, and doctoring Bonnie and Clyde.
Clyde is resting after his grooming session. He was worse than Bonnie and half of his fur couldn't be salvaged.
Bonnie started wagging her tail after we got her cleaned up.
PPAWSS needs your financial support to be able to save dogs from nelgect like these two purebred Shih Tzus.
